Calling all Players

The Community Players of Greene County are working hard on the next production, a readers’ theatre of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The production is slated for Sept. 11-13. Done in the style of Readers Theatre, we will take the stage September 11-13. Watch for more information.

Another major project the Players are working on is creating a master list of all persons who have participated in any Players production over the years.

The project was born out of creating an invitation list for the Players’ 40th anniversary gala a few years ago. The list is still incomplete, but with help from area residents, the Players hope to have a more complete list.

“As I reviewed the current list, I see we have lost several members over the years. With each person’s passing, the Players lose a story of who we are. To help preserve this history, we are looking for people’s stories of their experiences in Players productions,” said Players president Clay Ross.

Ross shared examples of the types of stories the group is looking for: the founding of the Players organization; when Frank Porter hosted the Iowa Community Theatre Association’s Gala event at his place; and when the fire department got called out to rehearsal by accident. “There are countless stories that need to be told,” he said.

Persons who want to contribute to the project can stories to the Players email address, cpgcia@gmail.com or by US mail to C. Ross, RR2 Box 157, Jefferson, IA 50129.

“Thank you all and hope to see you at the theatre,” Ross said.
